156th Emirates Melbourne Cup 马背上追风逐电

The Melbourne Cup Carnival, one of the biggest sporting events in Australia, saw one of the country’s largest tourism successes. Spanning over four sunny days, it attracted over 318,854 local, regional and international attendees who flocked to enjoy the racing, fashion, entertainment and hospitality of the world’s most vibrant racing event.

The 156th Emirates Melbourne Cup came to an exciting finish with the narrow victory by Almandin cementing Lloyd Williams’ place in the rich history of the race.

The thrills continued on Crown Oaks Day, with 120-1 chance Lasqueti Spirit providing a huge upset, while on the opening day of the Carnival, James Cummings became the fourth trainer of the Cummings dynasty to win the AAMI Victoria Derby when Prized Icon took the honours in the classic for three-year-olds.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival came to a close with Saturday’s Emirates Stakes Day. A strong crowd of 70,351 witnessed Stephen Baster ride the Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Awesome Rock to take out the $2 million feature race of the day.

Malaguerra, for trainer Peter Gelagotis and jockey Ben Melham, claimed the sprinting battle, winning the $1million Darley Classic.

The Carnival saw over 511 horses compete in 37 races with more than $18 million in prize money. The organiser has also made the effort to reach out to new audiences via a live stream by Channel 7 on Twitter that saw the hashtag #MelbourneCup trend number one worldwide. Live coverage of the Emirates Melbourne Cup reached 2.96 million viewers around the country, while PLUS7 Live delivered 575,000 streams.

The Birdcage Enclosure played host to international and local celebrities including Elsa Pataky, Curtis Stone and Gina Rinehart at Emirates; Scott Eastwood at Sensis; Maria Menounos at Mumm; Bec Hewitt and Ashleigh Brewer at Lavazza; and Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith at Myer, while nine-time Olympic gold medallist and special guest of Crown, Usain Bolt, thrilled racegoers when he presented the Crown Oaks trophy to winning connections on Thursday.

This one-of-its-kind Red Carpet Gala Dinner provided them with an evening of extensive networking to develop new customer prospects, reward their key clients and friends with a VIP experience and connect with the most influential personalities.

The North Banquet 2016 – The Hosts & The VIPs is the first Red Carpet Gala Dinner in Butterworth organised by CHTNetwork in collaboration with Ichi Media with the objective to identify influential personalities as hosts and provide a platform for these hosts to invite their VIPs. This prestigious event in Butterworth further promotes various business industries such as tourism, manufacturing and hospitality to strengthen the economy and business opportunities both locally and abroad.

The VIPs

Over 300 invited guests who came to the event have dressed to impress. Men and women came adorned with lavish and glittery dresses and suits with a touch of gold. The event was held at Sunway Carnival Convention Centre with great support from fellow sponsors:- Rado, Shiseido Professional, Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Hotel, Royals Blue and Airmas Group. Dato’ Cher Chen Chiang and Richard Rivalee were delighted with a surprise birthday celebration when cakes and premium gifts were presented to them accompanied by a birthday song from the floor.

The Cuisine

Petr Feher, a European-born Celebrity Chef with over 20 years of culinary experience who is also the Executive Chef at Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok and the Fine Food Consultant of GST Group, has designed delicate and sumptuous appetisers for the gala dinner.

The Show

The event featured a spectacular Hair & Fashion Show (Theme: Evolution of the 60s) in collaboration with Shiseido Professional, Signature Hair Expert and renowned fashion designer Richard Rivalee. It showcased the vogue and elegant vintage 1960s hairstyle with stunning and dramatic impression achieved through huge smooth high and low bun techniques.

The Book

A unique coffee table book featuring both sponsors and the hosts was unveiled on the night to commemorate this important event. It was distributed to guests to achieve maximum exposure for the sponsors and hosts.

The Best Dressed

Many have dressed to impress on the night but only four ladies and one gentleman were chosen for their elegant evening gowns and charismatic formal suit. General Manager of Shiseido Professional, Samantha Vong presented the Best Dressed momentos to the beautiful Datin’ Peggy Lim, Dr Maggie Fong, Grace Chiam, Datin’ Karen Ng and the handsome Leon Hulme.

The Auction

A significant part of the night was the fun and excitement of the bidding game where portion of the proceeds of sold items were given to charity as part of the contribution of the event. The highlight of the night was the auction of a specially designed jewellery piece “The Heirloom” by Royals Blue to celebrate the success story of The North Banquet. The exquisite piece, adorned with 448 coloured stones and diamonds, was sold at RM47,000 to Mr and Mrs Khor Chin Leng.

A Rado HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Match Point – a limited edition of tennis-inspired plasma high-tech ceramic watch with only 999 pieces available in the whole world; an elegant luxury evening gown from renowned fashion designer Richard Rivalee; and a unique edition of One East Museum’s Founder Ch’ng Huck Theng’s Relationship bronze sculpture were also auctioned.

People’s Choice Award 2016 人民选择奖

The winners of People’s Choice Award 2016, an initiative founded by Brand Yourself to recognise outstanding individuals with prominent achievements in their industries, were announced during a Gala event held at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. Around 300 guests attended this year’s People’s Choice Award, which also marked the second year of the award ceremony where 14 eligible nominees were selected to run for the 4 awards.

Qin Yi Honoured with IWC Filmmaker Award

IWC Schaffhausen in partnership with the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) for the fourth time hosted an exclusive “For the Love of Cinema” Gala Dinner at the prestigious Aman at Summer Palace. 94-year-old Chinese actress and film legend Qin Yi was honoured with the IWC Filmmaker Award for her remarkable contributions to Chinese film. Among celebrities and VIPs attending were actresses and IWC brand ambassadors Zhou Xun and Rosamund Pike together with celebrities such as Andrew Lau and Guan Hu. On the same day, IWC launched the limited edition of 50 pieces of Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days Edition “Beijing International Film Festival 2016”.

Entering its 6th edition, CHT Awards is now officially known as the CHT International Awards. The Performance

The night started off with a pair of sister-brother siblings presenting a duet of The Myth OST – Endless Love together with the Master of Ceremony of the night Daniel Chan. Followed by veteran actress and singer Sophia Ibrahim. Renowned music composer Johan Nawawi chipped in to entertain the crowd with ‘Hanya Satu’ and international acclaimed violinist Tengku Ryo from Indonesia captured the hearts of the guests with his mellow violin melody.

首先掀开序幕的是由一对声音动人的姐弟歌手搭档合唱电影“神话”的主题曲-无尽的爱，由大会司仪Daniel Chan伴奏。其次是资深女星兼歌手 Sophia Ibrahim 的实力表演，而著名作曲家 Johan Nawawi 也现场呈献“Hanya Satu”娱宾。来自印尼的国际著名的小提琴家Tengku Ryo却以柔美激情的旋律迅速捕捉现场听众的心。

The Birthdays

One distinctive thing about CHT Awards is that it is not only prestigious, but also with a heart. Knowing that some guests actually postponed their birthday celebration with their loved ones and friends to support the event, five guests were delighted with a surprised birthday celebrations when cakes and presents were presented to them accompanied by a birthday song from the floor. Guest of Honour HRH The Crown Prince of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizzudin was also caught by surprise when the President of CHTNetwork presented a rare and old huge Coca Cola bottle as a belated birthday present knowing that The Crown Prince was an avid Coca Cola collector.

CHT大奖与众不同的是，不仅是满载荣誉，而且非常贴心。获悉当晚一些出席贵宾由于颁奖礼推迟本身与亲友庆生活动，精心准备了蛋糕和礼物，伴随着生日歌，为5名贵宾举办了惊喜生日派对。例如荣誉贵宾玻璃市州王储Tuanku Syed Faizzudin殿下也显得意想不到，当CHTNetwork的创始人拿出巨型罕见的可口可乐瓶作为迟来的生日礼物，因为殿下是狂热的可口可乐收藏家。

The Best Dressed

Although many ladies had dressed to kill, only five were chosen for their magnificent evening gowns. Dato’ Dr. Wenddi Anne Chong presented the Best Dressed mementos to the beautiful Datin’ Winnie Loo, Nadia Wong Abdullah, Lillian Tong, Shawna Yap and Jocelyn Coco.

The Auctions

Auction of the night is always a significant part of CHT Awards as guests will have the opportunity to have some fun and excitement in the bidding game and at the same time contribute to charity as part proceeds from all items sold will go to children in need a helping hand. Most of the sponsors for this year’s CHT International Awards 2016 chipped in for this worthy cause.

Touching Moment

92-years-old mother of award winner Dr Lee Kim Siea was the oldest guest in the ballroom. Dr. Lee was almost in tears when receiving the CHT Pursuit of Excellence Award and dedicated the award to his mother who came from China with nothing and succeeded in bringing up one of Malaysia’s best plastic surgeons.

获奖者之一的李金城医生92岁的母亲是宴会厅最年长的来宾。李医生在上台领CHT卓越优秀奖的同时，也含泪表示将把这个奖项送给他的母亲-这位只靠自己双手辛劳拉拔一群儿女长大成人的老人，并成功造就这名马来西亚最好的整形外科医生之一。

The Awards Goes To

This year, CHT Awards presented 24 awards to recipients from 9 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, United States, Ireland and Australia. Topping the list is Dato’ Syed Mohamad bin Syed Murtaza, the President and Founder of MASAAM (Motorcycle and Scooter Assemblers and Distributors Association of Malaysia), who was awarded the CHT Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 for his contributions to the Malaysian motorcycle industry. Dato’ Syed Mohamad currently also serves as the Chairman of Malaysia’s leading corporations in the automotive industry – DRB-HICOM Berhad.

‘THE WHITE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD’ “白人评选大奖”

The 88th Oscars was yet another glamorous success for those in the movie industry. Host Chris Rock actually did a good job playing down the #OscarSoWhite controversy by tackling the topic head on commenting on the black issues and hit a home run with ‘the White People’s Choice Awards’ statement.

As for the winners, Leonardo DiCaprio finally got to make his Best Actor acceptance speech after five nomination whereas Brie Larson clinched the Best Actress with Mark Rylance and Alicia Vikader for Best Supporting Male and Female roles. While Best Picture went to Spotlight, Director Alejandro G. Iñarritu won the Best Director for the second year in a row. It was not just a night about winners and losers but it was also one of the most important nights for the stars showing off their sparkling jewelleries and beautiful luxury outfits competing for attention.

The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva took a nostalgic flight to 1936 to celebrate the pioneering days of flying and the launch of IWC’s first Pilot’s Watch. The star-studded gala celebration was graced by IWC brand ambassadors such as prestige actors Rosamund Pike, Hilary Swank, and Chris Evans, and sporting superstars Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Flying its fans back to the present, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer wowed its 800 guests with the launch of its latest Pilot’s Watches collection that boost IWC’s characteristic dial design and technical prowess such as the soft-iron cage to protect the movement against magnetic fields.

The Chief Minister of Penang YAB Lim Guan Eng recently launched the inaugural Maritime International Showcase Malaysia (MIS.M) that was organised by Reissiger Marine, together with Pen Marine Sdn Bhd, STYLO International, and Boatshed Asia. Mercedes-Benz, Airbus and Dassault Aviation were the sponsors. Among the highlights of the event is the maritime forum which featured some of the leading names in international maritime speaking on topics related to the growth and potential of yatching market in Asia.

Later in the evening, the MIS.M Gala Dinner took place at Penang’s historic Suffolk House. During the event, the organisers presented ASEAN Maritime Development Award to Dato’ Seri Tengku Dr. Zainal Adlin, BakriCono Shipyard won the ASEAN Maritime Company of the Year, Julian Chang was presented the ASEAN Maritime Personality of the Year and Grand Bank’s Yatchs took home the MIS.M ASEAN Maritime Company of the Year.
