The festival will highlight its motto – “Savour the Past”, “Enjoy the Present” and “Relish the Future” – through various events at different parts of George Town including Street Food Festival (SFF) at Lebuh Pantai that brings the best in Penang’s hawker fare, taking you back in time. Taste of Penang (TOP) celebrates Penang food of today presenting the most local gastronomic experience any tourist can see, and lastly, one of the more experiential part of the festival will see Fringe Food Festival (FFF) explores the cutting edge of food where chefs, baristas and mixologists collaborate, exchange ideas and innovate food of the future.

Cartier enriches its men’s collection Drive de Cartier with a moon phases model. This watch is fitted with the new Manufacture movement 1904-LU MC. A distinctive moon phase complication displayed at 6 o’clock tracks the cycle of new moons, half-moons and full moons. This extraordinarily precise complication is known as “astronomic”, needing to be corrected by one day every 125 years.
The Drive de Cartier Moon Phases watch stays true to the signature aesthetic of the Drive de Cartier collection: wearability. With a convex curved glass case and uncluttered white guilloché dial, it is available in pink gold or steel. This timepiece lends an unaffected touch of sophistication to everyday mechanics.
IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is the first model in IWC’s history to combine a chronograph from the 89000 calibre family with the perpetual calendar’s moon phase display in a subdial at “12 o’clock”. To achieve this, both the moon and the shadow of the earth are depicted on a single disc and rotate beneath an aperture in the lower part of the subdial. Together with the other three displays, this new function creates a harmonious unit on the dial of the 43mm watch. The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is available in two versions: 18-caratred gold and stainless steel.
A silver-plated or gold-plated disc depicts the full moon in all its glory. At the same time, the rounded, dark blue section of the disc – representing the earth’s shadow – rotates to show the waxing or waning moon. With white gold particles sprinkled across the dark blue background, the subdial has the appearance of a star-studded night sky.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph
The Royal Oak was the world’s first stainless steel high end Swiss watch. With its extra strong case, screw down octagonal bezel and exclusive “Grande Tapisserie” dial, the Royal Oak has become instantly recognisable as one of the worlds leading sports watches. The collection is named after British Royal Navy Battleships, which in turn were named for the tree which saved King Charles II from attack by his enemies. The octagonal shape is inspired by the cannon scuttles on the ships, and 40 years on from the original design by Gerald Genta, it still makes a bold statement.
This special edition in 18-carat pink gold with chocolate hand-stitched alligator strap and glareproofed sapphire crystal comes with a meticulous detailing on the expressive two-tone dial, especially the expanded chronograph counters in pink gold, enhancing the look and improving readability.
Rendez-Vous Moon Medium
The enigmatic and inspiring moon slowly glides over the face of this stainless steel Rendez-Vous Moon Medium watch set with diamonds. With its blue-tinted bracelet, it evokes the color of a clear blue sky. The moon, in all its splendor, is revealed by a wide aperture at 6 o’clock. The distinctive blue, elegantly grained surface presents a material effect that is strongly reminiscent of a nocturnal shimmer.
The center of the dial features a geometric guilloché motif, which evokes a halo of light. The edge of the dial is adorned with small, round hour-markers, achieving a striking harmony with the floral numerals of the iconic Rendez-Vous collection. To highlight the beauty and delicate design of the dial, the bezel is set with a row of stunningly pure diamonds.
Audemars Piguet’s Diamond Outrage
Audemars Piguet’s latest women’s high jewellery watch is surely not for the faint-hearted. The new Diamond Outrage is the third and final mega-diamond piece unveiled by the brand (first the Diamond Punk, then the Diamond Fury). The stunning timepiece is a decadent statement of watchmaking and gem setting, tempered by a healthy dose of modern, edgy daring.
The diamond-studded timepiece is inspired by the icy forests in Vallee de Joux. Brilliant cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds are used in this statement piece. The sapphire-diamond version features six shades of blue and the bracelet is entirely snow set with 11,043 brilliant-cut sapphires in six different shades of blue and various sizes, totaling 65.47 carats of gemstones in all. Each stone is set so closely together that virtually no gold is visible.
A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange ‘Pour le Mérite’
The dazzling new A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual ‘Pour le Mérite’ is the epitome of classic watchmaking: its hallmarks permeate all domains from design and engineering to consummate, flawless artisanship. The dial itself reflects the traditional approach in timekeeping. Arabic numerals, a railway-track minute scale, blued steel hands for the time and rhodiumed gold hands for the calendar as well as the cloverleaf arrangement of the subsidiary dials pay tribute to the famous A. Lange & Söhne pocket watches.
Tradition also governs technical details such as column-wheel control for the chronograph and rattrapante mechanisms as well as the screw balance. Finally, it manifests itself in typical quality elements such as the two diamond endstones that suspend the tourbillon cage or the black-polished tourbillon bridge. The stately platinum case with a diameter of 43mm is a fitting stage for this horological masterpiece.
CEO & Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI)
Heading one of the major independent think tank in Malaysia is no mean feat but for its co-founder, Tan Sri Dr Michael Yeoh, it is necessary to create a better society through its extensive research work. He co-founded the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute, known simply as ASLI, back in 1993 and has never turned back.
“Should I choose to retire I am sure ASLI will be in good hands.”
“I cofounded ASLI, 24 years ago in 1993, as Malaysia did not have an independent think tank then. The business community and many others felt there was a need for the country to have an independent think tank like the ones in USA, UK and many other countries,” he said. ASLI was the first private independent think tank set up in Malaysia and now, there are many others following in its footsteps.
He said the main purpose of setting up ASLI was to provide strategic thinking to companies and the government. “It was also to promote debate on public policy issues,” he said.
Yeoh said ASLI had taken up important issues in the country such as education, competitiveness, national unity, green technology and environment.
He, then, mentioned how Malaysians are “over politicking” in recent times. ”The political divisions is both at an ethnic and socio-economic angle. The Malays seem to be returning strong support to the UMNO and Barisan Nasional whilst the Chinese continue to strongly support the Opposition. Meanwhile we see the socio-economic divide along class lines, between the poor and the wealthy, the urban and rural voters,” he said.
He said it is rather worrying that race relations in the country is causing more division between the people. He felt that it is time for all to get back to middle ground.
He said each Malaysian need to have respect for one another, be tolerant and have better understanding of other races’ sensitivities. “We must find common space for our students and teenagers to mingle and mix in a multiracial environment,” he said and suggested sports and art as unifies.
Recently, ASLI is ranked to be among the world’s top 100 think tanks out of 7,000 think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania in USA. It is also ranked 4th in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, effectively placing it in top placing in Malaysia. It has also won the Brand Laurete Award and many other awards.
“I cofounded ASLI, 24 years ago in 1993, as Malaysia did not have an independent think tank then. The business community and many others felt there was a need for the country to have an independent think tank like the ones in USA, UK and many other countries.”
Yeoh personally too has several awards to his name, the most recent being the INPenang Lifetime Achievement Award. He feels that the most satisfying achievement for him is being conferred the Doctor of Laws by the University of Nottingham in Britain, it is one of the UK’s top universities. “Of course being conferred a Tan Sriship is also satisfying,” he added.
However, it is not all work and no play for Yeoh. He enjoys travelling immensely and always make it a point to visit new countries he has never been before, each year. “Last year, I visited Morocco for the first time and the previous year I visited Portugal also for the first time,” he said. He also made sure that he sets aside time for his family to maintain a healthy work-life balance. “Family life is important and I do take family holidays at least twice a year,” he said.
Though he is now past 60, retirement is not something he has considered just yet. There is still a lot more that he felt he could do. “Should I choose to retire I am sure ASLI will be in good hands,” he said. So, for now, Yeoh will continue to lead the think tank to greater achievements.

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, once again, made headlines for a very different reasons this year when La La Land was incorrectly announced as the Best Picture, before Moonlight was clarified to be the winner two minutes after. Nevertheless, there were many awe-inspiring and stunning moments that saw the award presentation of 24 categories at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Televised by ABC in the United States and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the first time, it also saw Moonlight, the first film with an all-black cast to win three awards, including Best Picture. La La Land won the most awards at the ceremony with six after receiving 14 nominations. Hacksaw Ridge and Manchester by the Sea won two awards each. Winners with one award include Arrival, and Where to Find Them, Fences, The Jungle Book, O.J. : Made in America, Piper, The Salesman, Sing, Suicide Squad, The White Helmets, and Zootopia. Emma Stone won Best Actress in La La Land and Casey Affleck as Best Actor in Manchester by the Sea.
The infamous red carpet walk includes Jessica Biel with her metallic gown by Kaufman Franco, Emma Stone’s glamorous golden gown by Givenchy, Ruth Negga in a long-sleeved Valentino gown, Brie Larson looking sexy in a shapely black dress, Viola Davis in her red Armani Prive, and Kirsten Dunst in a Dior gown. As for men, Pharrell Williams was all about Chanel, Sunny Pawar – the actor in Lion – in awesome cuteness with bow tie and yellow kicks, and Casey Affleck’s mountain man look cleans up nicely in Louis Vuitton.
(Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) , “藩篱” (Fences) , “奇幻森林” (The Jungle Book), “辛普森:美国制造” (O.J. : Made in America) , “鹬” (Piper) , “推销员” (The Salesman), “校合唱团的秘密” (Sing), “X特遣队” (Suicide Squad) , 白头盔 (The White Helmets) 和“疯狂动物城” (Zootopia)。演出“爱乐之城”的 Emma Stone 获得最佳女主角,而 Casey Affleck 以 “海边的曼彻斯特”赢得最佳男主角。
The young and cherub-face gentleman’s manner and appearance belie his age.Well-suited, he steps into the room with an air of confidence and warmth albeit the black ribbon on his lapel, clearly still expressing his mourning for the loss of Thailand’s beloved King Bhumibol.Thai national Nivat Chantarachoti is the general manager of Thai Airways International, overseeing Malaysia and Brunei, one of the most challenging and competitive air-travel routes in the world.Currently pursuing his Doctorate Degree in Business Administration with the Business Science Institute of Luxembourg, his highly relevant research on ‘The Impact of Low-Cost Carriers in the Aviation Industry’ takes up the lion share of his time, when not in office. However, he did not start out as a master of the sky initially.
Fresh out of college in Manila, Philippines, young Nivat Chantarachoti had a short stint as an English instructor with TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), but he could not reign in his love for air travel and the mastering of business in new horizons. So, he set his heart on joining Thai Airways, a move many of his fellow countrymen clamour for. “I joined Thai Airways in 1989, as a flight attendant. It is the dream of new graduates to travel and see the world. Therefore, it is the pride of most Thai people to work for Thai Airways because it is the national carrier of Thailand.Furthermore, Thai Airways is a public enterprise and a very stable organisation,” he explains.
Nivat’s childhood spanned across a few continents. “My father is a Thai diplomat and we lived abroad most of our lives.
I spent several years living in Vientiane, New York, and Manila during my childhood. I did most of my studies in the US and at an international school in Bangkok. In the Philippines, I completed my Bachelor Degree in Computer Science when my father was with the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila. I got my MBA while working for Thai Airways and am currently pursuing my PhD.”
Clocking an impressive 28 years with Thai Airways, Nivat has managed Thai Airways offices in Australia, France, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Switzerland before Malaysia and Brunei.“My years as a flight attendant gave me valuable perspective and I was able to see and experience the destinations we are selling,” he gathers.
Thai Airways business slogan ‘The First Choice Carrier with Touches of Thai’ is not an easy goal to achieve. “Thai Airways has been around since 1960, making us 57 years old this year. Our fleet of over 95 aircrafts fly to more than 80 destinations around the world,” Nivat announces with pride.
“Thai people are famous for their kind hospitality or what is often referred to as ‘Thai-ness’.This signature brand of hospitality is what sets us apart from the rest of the airlines.”
The next sentence Nivat utters is what every air passenger wants to hear these days, “Thai Airways has an excellent safety record.” Apart from safety, Thai Airways has been the winner of the Best Cabin Crew Award on numerous occasions.“Our strategy is to differentiate our product. We are renowned for our in-flight service called the Royal Orchid Service.Thai people are famous for their kind hospitality or what is often referred to as ‘Thai-ness’.This signature brand of hospitality is what sets us apart from the rest of the airlines,” Nivat adds.
Whatever little time this engaging personality has, after work and academic pursuits, is either spent on the treadmill at the gym or on a plush Thai Airways aircraft seat, bound for new destinations and exciting experiences in faraway lands.
Lets us understand WHAT CAUSES LEAKY GUT SYNDROME?
INTESTINAL PERMEABILITY
A possible cause of LEAKY GUT is increased Intestinal Permeability or Intestinal Hyperpemeability.
That could happen when tight junction in the gut, which control what passes through the lining of the small intestine, don’t work properly. That could let substance leak in the bloodstream.
People with Celiac Disease & Crohns disease experience this. Example,Toxins in form of Medications, like Steriods, Antibiotics, Advil, Acid reducing drugs and environment toxins like Mecury, Pesticides & BPA from plastic. Stress and Age might also contributes to a Leaky Gut.
Leaky Gut Sydrome aren’t unique. They are shared by other problem too. Leaky Gut often overlooked as a condition when under disgestive stress, and almost completely ignored if you have been diagnosed with another disease.
However, it is often a root cause of many health concerns, when the gut cannot properly digest nutrients.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A LEAKY GUT SYNDROME?
A number of symptoms can arise from Neurological, Endocrine and Metabolic eg: Mood Changes, Memory Lapses, Irritable Bowel, Cancer, Loss of Energy, reduced
in Immune Response, Arthritis, Malnutrition, Bloatedness,
Chronic Fatigue, general Seasonal Allergies, Food Allergies, Intolerences, Skin Rashes (related to inflammation), Nutritional deficiencies, (improper absorption),
weakend immune system (from overexertion), Candida Over Growth, Constipation, ongoing Diarrhea, Atopy, Chronic Uticaria, Ulcerative Colitis, Acute Gastroenterities, Cystic Fibrosis, Exocrine Pancreatic Defects, Poor Digestion, Iron Deficiency, Bowel Cancer, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Maldigestion.
When your immune system attacks particles that escape into the blood stream, regardless of whether they are harmful or not, the killer cells inadvertenly attack healthy cells in the process creating more inflammation thoughtout the body.
Symptoms may spread body wide, but still be attributed to other lifestyle factors. Gaps from intestinal lining widen from inflammation.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
MANY WAYS OF MANAGING LEAKY GUT AND REDUCING SYMPTOMS
We could support Liver Function to improve Detoxification such as 1st Phase MHT 5 Days Detoxification programme and followed by 2nd Phase MHT Detoxification as we need to check yeast infections and parasites as the person may be suffering from Achlorhydria, Lactose Intolerance and Pancreatic Insufficiency (refer http://www.drmecherlherbs.com)
Reinoculating the bowel with beneficial colonic bacteria, by supplementing with good bacteria count such as Proflora A.
Restabilising the gut epithelium to normal function.
Eliminate or reduce the insult to the gut barrier from xenobiotic or food allergies.
Follow an elimination diet or eliminate substances that produce toxic insult to the gut. 80% of individuals who have food allergens or intolerences have LEAKY GUT SYDROME.
Limit the uses of Alcohol, Antibiotics, Aspirin, and NSAIDS as they damage the gut barrier.
Reduce exposure to exogenous xenobiotics eg: pesticide, insecticides, and irritant chemicals, by eating more organically grown vegetables.
Increase the intake of high fibre foods, slippery elm, bananas and cabbage.
Increase intake of fish, cod, tuna, salmon or their oil.
Support the liver with supplements on phase II as above mentioned.
Glucosamine and Glutamine improve the bowel wall integrity and reduce bowel leakiness.
Improve digestion by supplementing with digestive enzymes
Plastic Surgery is a sub-speciality of general surgery, it deals mainly with forms and functions of the whole body. The word plastic is derived from the Greek word ‘plastikos’ which means ‘fit for molding’, it has nothing to do with the plastic wares that we know about, plastic materials are certainly not used in the surgery.
There are two main division of plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery and aesthetic or cosmetic surgery.Reconstructive surgery deals mainly with repair and restoration of the loss or damaged tissues. Tissues such as bone, flesh and skin can lost or damaged in trauma, burns or surgeries to remove cancers, the resultant defects can be repaired and restored using various type of tissues from nearby or other parts of the body with various surgical techniques. The restoration of the defects give back the form and functions to the patients, allowing them to live more normally. Imagine the loss of lower jaw from surgical removal of a cancer without reconstruction…. Hand and microsurgery is an integral part of plastic surgery.
Aesthetic / cosmetic surgery concerns with improving the physical forms of the person. Patients are usually well physically, however, they are driven by dissatisfaction of the physical appearance of certain part(s) of their body.In severe cases, they can be totally unhappy with their whole body. This dissatisfaction can result in minor or severe psychological disturbance affecting self-esteem to the extent of affecting their life. Improving the appearance thus restores their self- confidence resulting in improvement of their life. As society becomes more affluent, people are looking to more than just basic needs, money is spent to make themselves more beautiful; clothing, hairdo, accessories are made more and more expensive and attractive. Some will venture into changing or improving their appearance with aesthetic/cosmetic procedures.
Plastic surgery is not new, the history can be dated back to 15th century when there was an epidemic of syphilis resulting in many disfigured people. Plastic surgery was performed to restore the appearance of these people. The most notable procedure was the nose reconstruction which was recorded in many parts of the world including Europe and India. Procedures than were painful with many complications, even death, results were unsatisfactory by today’s standards, it has evolved through many advances in techniques, better understanding of the processes and importantly availability of more advanced materials and tools.
Aesthetic procedures can be surgical or nonsurgical. Surgeries are what plastic surgery is well known for, this involves operations to improve the appearance of the patients who are otherwise healthy; facelifts, nose operations, eyelids operations, body contouring operations, breast augmentations and fat grafting are some of the well- known examples.
Nonsurgical procedures are done without or with minimum incisions. Among the well- known ones are laser/light and energy based devices, injectables like BOTOX and fillers, thread lifts, medical skin cares and recently stem cell treatment. The aim is to beautify and rejuvenate without using the scapel. This is the field that is growing rapidly; the affordability, the fear of surgery and minimum down time have made these procedures extremely popular. However, they are not without problems and complications, it is important to look for a qualified doctor like plastic surgeon to perform these procedures.
Beauty is a concept, it has no universal criteria. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It is influenced by many factors including media. There are, however, a number of parameters that make a person’s appearance pleasing to the eyes- symmetry, proportions and harmony are important. Everyone has his/her own unique appearance and attractiveness, it is up to a plastic surgeon to enhance the attractive features and minimize the short comings in order to bring out the best in the person. The plastic surgeon must have an eye for beauty, ability to appreciate beauty and be able to visualize the results before even doing the procedure. It is both art and medicine. My philosophy is to enhance the natural beauty and not to change the person’s appearance. Although the concept of extreme makeover is beingpromoted, I see it being too dramatic and too risky as the complication rate is too high; besides, it is too costly.
Plastic surgery/aesthetic procedures are not just for women. There is an increasing number of men looking for plastic/aesthetic procedures, a man with big eyebags, frown furrows, saggy face and a pot belly would not make as good an impression to clinch that crucial deal against a younger looking, more energetic appearing competitor.
Plastic surgery is simply not just for the rich and famous or the vain selected few. We seek improvement in all areas of our life, for example our physical health and mental well- being; many of us spend hours in the gym, even a manicure/pedicure takes hours; we spend lots of money on our dressing and accessories. Plastic surgery or aesthetic procedures are just an extension of this to improve our appearance, it gives a tremendous boost to our self- confidence. A lady beautifully dressed with expensive clothing and accessories would not have the same impact if her face looks old and haggard. Plastic surgery/aesthetic procedures in today’s modern world enhance our life style, it is more and more accepted as a way to enable us to look our best at whatever age.

Since 1950s, high cholesterol (LDL – C : Low – Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol) has been identified as a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic diseases (ischemic heart disease, stroke and peripheral vessel disease).
Many epidemiological and interventional studies have provided robust evidence to the association between high cholesterol and atherosclerotic disease, which is the number one killer worldwide.
To combat this deadly disease, the quest for drugs that could reduce cholesterol has begun since 1960s. Of all the investigational drugs developed, Statin emerged to be the first established lipid lowering medication that is able to reduce cholesterol effectively.
In 1976, the Japanese biochemist Akira Endo isolated a factor from the fungus Penicillium citrinum which he developed into the first Statin. He named it Compactin or Mevastatin.
In 1978, Alfred Alberts at Merck Research Laboratories discovered a potent inhibitor of HMG – CoA reductase in a fermentation broth of Aspergillus terreus, which was named Lovastatin, Mevinolin or Monacolin K.
Since Lovastatin had been commercialized, six other statins – two semi – synthetic statins (simvastatin and pravastatin) and four synthetic statins (Fluvastatin, Rosuvastatin and Pitavastatin and Atorvastatin) – have been introduced to the market over the years.
As a practicing cardiologist, I think Statin is the most controversial medication in the history of medicine. While many mega – clinical trials have proven the benefits of Statins in term of reduction of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity, a lot of negative publicity on Statins have demonised these medications. Social medias are the major channel where the fallacies of Statins spread virally. The minor side effects of Statins are exaggerated and the therapeutic effect of Statins are covered. These type of negative and bias reports on Statins have caused confusion not only to general public but also to physicians.
I hope I can put the facts of Statins in its correct perspective by presenting the scientific evidence to dispel the confusion and misunderstanding. As Socrates’s famous saying : there is only one good – KNOWLEDGE ; and one evil – IGNORANCE.
LDL and Statin : The irrefutable truth – proven in many mega clinical trials
High LDL cholesterol causes cardiovascular disease. There is a strong and graded positive association between LDL cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease. This association applies to men and women, and to those with or without established cardiovascular disease. A 1% increase in LDL cholesterol is associated with a > 2% increase in coronary artery disease over 6 years.
Reduction of LDL will reduce mortality and morbidity, the lower LDL better the clinical outcome. Meta – analysis of many Statin trials has showed a dose dependent relative reduction in cardiovascular disease with LDL reduction. Every 1 mol / L reduction in LDL cholesterol is translated into a 20 – 25% reduction in cardiovascular disease mortality.
Statin is the mainstay of treatment to reduce LDL and cardiovascular mortality and morbidity.
Statin causes atherosclerotic plaque regression.
Bad publicity on Statin has caused a reduction in the usage of Statin by patients and prescription of Statin by physicians. The decline in the use of Statin translated into increase in CV morbidity and even death. The benefit of cardiovascular protection of Statins really outweighs the small risk of side effects. Let us have a closer look on the side effects of Statins.
Side effects of Statin
Muscle pain :
Myalgia : 5%, reversible. The problem of muscle pain can be reduced by monitoring of certain risk factors (old age, kidney impairment and concomitant administration of some medications which may cause drug – drug interaction)
Rhabdomyolysis – severe form of muscle breakdown with acute kidney injury is very rare : 1 in 100,000
Hepatotoxicity : Side effects on liver
Asymptomatic raise in liver enzyme ALT occurs in 3% of patients.
Severe acute liver failure is also very rare – 1 in 100,000
Cancer : no increase in risk. In fact Statin may confer protection from cancer mortality
Dementia and cognition function loss : no increase in risk. In fact Statin may reduce dementia risk.
Hemorrhagic stroke : small risk. But Statin reduces overall stroke risk.
Diabetes :
5 – 10% risk
But the cardiovascular protection is much more than this small diabetic risk.
Even if patients develop diabetes they still live longer and healthier compared with those who have high LDL not taking Statin and no Stain induced diabetes.
High risk factors of Statin induced diabetes are high baseline blood sugar and metabolic syndrome.
Patients who are talking Statins are encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of diabetes
Understand these facts of Statins will help us to dispel Statin – phobia. Statins should definitely not be prescribed for all. But the high risk patients should take Statin to reduce the cardiovascular risk. The benefit of Statins should not be denied in these group of high risk patients just because of fear of side effects.
I encourage readers to discuss any issues on Statin use with respective physicians if there is any further doubt.
Bangkok has a global reputation for world-class restaurants, hotels, luxurious spas and modern shopping malls besides the many points of interest. We explored some at leisure during our trip to the capital of Thailand.
LUXURIOUS STAY
Bangkok is home to many luxurious hotels and a stay at the 5-star Dusit Thani Bangkok on Silom Road was a perfect experience. This luxurious city-center property has travellers living up in style at its Dusit Room and Thai Heritage Suites which combined modern luxury and comfort with classical Thai accents.
Residents of the hotel are treated to relaxing greenery at the historic Lumpini Park, an oasis of serenity and greenery located opposite the hotel. On top of that, the biggest advantage is that the hotel is located within steps from the BTS Skytrain Station and MRT Subway Station – which conveniently connect you to your destination, shopping hubs and entertaining centers.

Chef Philippe whips up delicious Thai dishes at Benjarong Dusit Thani
CULINARY DELIGHTS
Bangkok has charmed the palates of many foodies with its many distinct food and beverages outlets. If you prefer Thai flavours, the Benjarong housed on the lower lobby of Dusit Thani Hotel offers interesting modern contemporary Thai cuisines that are distinctly Thai at heart. The all-stars of Thai cuisine such as Kaeng Kiew Wan See Krong Neau Toon (sous-vide beef ribs in green curry), Pad Thai and Tom Yum are served here. The chef deconstructed the sour and spicy Tom Yum dish and had the ingredients and garnishing composed in a bowl with a table side pour of the soup. Among the highlights of the dessert include basil ice-cream with fresh pineapple and salty meringue, red rubies and jackfruit with coconut ice-cream, and the mango sticky rice. The revamped nitrogen mango sticky rice is refreshing combined with the accompanying mango sorbet.
Definitely worth checking out is Red Sky, Bangkok’s most iconic sunset look-out spot. Located at the 55th floor of the 5-star Centara Grand hotel, the fast lifts will zip you up to the rooftop restaurant and bar which offers 360-degree amazing city views. Wrap up the day with sunset cocktails and specialties from the menu which features fresh locally-sourced seafood and prime imported steaks. The Prime A3 Japanese Wagyu, and chef’s signature dish Red Sky Surf & Turf Tower are not to be missed. After the meal, sit back and relax with a glass of Royal Coffee. This signature speciality coffee on Red Sky’s menu has its flavour enhanced with cognac, brown sugar and whipped cream.
If you are in the mood for a fine meal of wagyu beef and foie gras without all the pomp and circumstance of a fine-dining outlet, head over to the sumptuous buffet dinner at Espresso. The bistro in Intercontinental Hotel serves fairly international fare. You can expect free flow of the luxurious ingredients from the cooking station alongside array of seafood and assortment of sashimi
and sushi.
When night falls, dressed fashionably and venture out to the world’s first VOGUE Lounge. Located on the six floor rooftop of Mahanakhon Cube, the chill-out space with indoor area and vast al fresco terrace welcomed its first visitors in 2014. Its interior boasts a classic tricolour scheme of black, white and gold, with walls adorned with the brand’s expressive fashion & lifestyle magazine covers. On the other hand, the al fresco terrace is a perfect spot to chill amidst the nearby towering Mahanakhon Tower. For food and drinks, savor classic cocktails, fine wines and fashion bites created by Michelin award winning chef Vincent Thierry. I am drawn to the mini salmon cones with soft delicate salmon tartar accented by fresh salmon roe, almonds and zesty horseradish sauce.

CULINARY CLASSES
There are so many top culinary classes in Bangkok whereby visitors can pick up some cooking skills. Enrol yourself in one of the cooking classes and learn how to dish out some Thai delicacies. With a visit to Naj Cooking School on Thanon Convent, just off of Silom Road, one can prepare the tom yum goong, pomelo salad and phad thai with surprising ease under the guidance of Chef Ohmmy Ayasanond. At the end of the class, it is a feast of cooked dishes spread on the table in its lavishly decorated restaurant.
We enjoyed the phad thai; a dish of lightly charred flat rice noodles, with shrimps, chopped sweet turnip, garlic, tofu, and egg, accompanied by Chinese chives, bean sprout, crushed peanuts and lime wedges. Its sweet-tart flavors are accomplished using tamarind juice, fish sauce and palm sugar.
All in all, my Bangkok experience basking in luxury gives me much lasting pleasure. Even before I reached my home destination, the facilities inside the Suvarnabhumi Airport departure lounge are enough to keep me comfortable and satisfied.
